Access +100 programming courses on Zenva: 🤍 One of the premises of Zenva Sky is to make the teachings of computer science and coding something immersive and interactive. Virtual reality can allow the interaction between the user and their surroundings in manners that are not possible with 2D or normal 3D development, which is what we normally do at Zenva when we teach coding. VR is a new medium so it is hard to know in advance what will work and what won’t. Also, the only way to know is to build an actual VR prototype. Our methodology and goal for the next two weeks is to continue exploring prototypes and mechanic ideas, until we find one that feels suitable. Last week we presented an interactive experience where the user can apply “commands” to interactive objects. We expanded on that concept by improving the UX so that the prototype can be used entirely in VR, without the use of the keyword. 1. Select a target object By using their hand-tracked controllers, the user can point to an object with the “laser pointer” and activate it to prompt a series of commands. For now we only have the command “Move”. When selecting a command, options for that command are presented. In this case, the user can choose what axis to move on and how much. ACCESS the FULL COURSE here: 🤍 Control your material textures by learning the first steps of UV mapping. Applying textures to 3D models is a great way to customize how your model looks. Not only does it let you mimic real materials like brick, marble, and so forth easily, but it creates a sense of "feel" to the model beyond flat colors. Additionally, using textures lets you create complex looks that would otherwise be difficult to achieve. However, knowing how to apply textures is just the first step of the battle. The next step is to learn techniques that are useful for creating texture files and can be applied to increasingly complex model shapes, such as characters. This is where UV mapping comes in - the process of taking your 3D mesh and "unwrapping" it so it creates a flat, 2D surface. These 2D surfaces can then be used as a template for applying and painting your required textures. In this tutorial, you'll explore the popular Blender engine and learn how to access its UV mapping tools to unwrap a cube. Then, with your map, you'll learn how to adjust your map to determine just how a texture is applied to it. No matter what sort of path you want to take with 3D models, understanding UV maps is an essential skill required for just about any advanced sort of material application. It lets you exhibit a greater control over textures that need it, and also allows you to simplify the texturing process. In fact, with UV mapping, you can reduce your texture files significantly, even painting all required textures for a specific model into a single file. Though this tutorial is best suited for those familiar with Blender and 3D modeling in general, UV mapping is a skill that will help you customize your assets for whatever your project needs are.

ACCESS the FULL COURSE here: 🤍 TRANSCRIPT Hey everyone, and welcome back. In this lesson, we are gonna work on actually starting to set up our image targets inside of Unity. So right now I'm on the EasyAR documentation website. And this is just gonna have some information about the Planar Image Tracking. So first of all, what I think is most important is getting an understanding of what sort of image targets you should have. And over here, it'll give you a bunch of examples of what you should do and what you should not do. First of all, on the left here, you'll see that this image has rich textures, whereas the one on the right is fairly simple. Then down here, it says that textures should not repeat in patterns. And that is good just because when it's identifying it, it needs to find unique elements of the image target, so it can know its position, scale, orientation, things like that. You also want to be filling up as much of the object as possible. So having quite a big margin isn't that good. And also maintaining a image that is rather square or rectangular. You don't really want a long image like this as your image target, as it really tries to track much more square objects.
ACCESS the FULL COURSE here: 🤍 TRANSCRIPT Hey guys, welcome back. In this lesson we're gonna get our player moving around the level based on our inputs. We're gonna be able to hit the W, A, S and D keys, the arrow keys, or even use a controller's analog sticks to move our player around. Unity makes it very simple to use all three of these different types of input without having to worry about each individual one. So we're gonna move the player around, we're gonna calculate the movement based on our input, like I said, and we're gonna be colliding with objects like the walls, the enemies, and the coins using our collisions with Rigidbodies. We'll talk about exactly what that is here in just a second. So back in Unity, the first thing I wanna do is I wanna go to my scripts folder and I wanna right click and I wanna create a new C Sharp script that's gonna be called player. This is gonna handle everything our player does. Now, as we know, all I have to do is go to my player object, drag my player script file directly onto my player object, and now anything we write, we can actually talk to this object and talk to the components on this object. But the important thing we're gonna using for this is what's called a Rigidbody. Now outside of physics, all we have to understand is this allows us to be physically enabled, so we can apply gravity, we can apply collisions and force and all those things you get to do in real life, right? If you pick up your phone and you throw it across the room, you applied force to it and then it's gonna collide with the floor and then it's going to stop. Stop moving, right? So we can do that with these objects by using something called a Rigidbody. So I'm gonna add a component. I'm wanna add a component called Rigidbody. Not the 2D version. Make sure you have the regular version. And now this gives us some physical components, some physical attributes, but all I care about for this is gonna be the mass of the object, so how heavy is this object? And we'll tweak this as we go when we add jumping and stuff. And also the fact that we are using gravity, so we're going to be applying a downward force to this object. Now with this setup matched with a Box Collider here, whatever kind of collider you have, we should be able to physically interact with our world. So let's test this out. What I can do, just to play around with this, is I can just grab my player. I'll drag him into the sky here. And now if I were to click play, what we should see is our player falling to the ground. That's pretty cool, right? So if I were to grab the player again while it's simulating, I can drag it up, and it'll fall to the ground. And that's what we're gonna do to work with this. Now if I try to drag him through this wall, notice he collides with it and he freaks out, right? That's because what I'm doing is I am manipulating the physics without editing the physics itself. So I'm actually dragging this object, I'm forcing the object around, and in this game world, it's ruled by physics. But I am saying, no, I don't care about your physics. I control this object. So it freaks out. So we have to use physical attributes to control the object. And by that, I mean we have to use the physics engine to move the object around. So we have to apply force or velocity. So if we wanna apply velocity, we'll apply the velocity to our player, which just means the speed and direction it's going to be moving based on our input. So if we're holding down the left direction, we're going to apply velocity that'll move the player to the left. Then if it finds a wall when it's going to the left, it'll collide with it and not be able to move beyond it. Any direction you wanna move will calculate the velocity for that direction. And one thing that's pretty cool. If we were to take this and angle it. Just give it a weird angle here and now click play, what we'll see is it kinda bounce about. Pretty cool.
