She was referred to Dr. Harsh after multiple investigations at different centers in Bangladesh. In this video Dr. Harsh Vardhan Puri, Sr. Consultant Thoracic and Lung Transplant Surgeon in Medanta, The Medicity, Gurugram tells how he treated this patient. She had pain in her hands with some tumor in her chest. At first, a CT Scan was performed to diagnose the tumor. Then PET scan was performed to detect whether the lesion is malignant, non-cancerous or benign. The next investigation was a biopsy of the patient. It came out to be Giant Cell Tumour. It's a very rare condition. For such patients, the choice of treatment is called surgical resection. But due to the proximity of the tumour to brachial plexus, surgery was planned with a team of plastic surgeons and neurosurgeons.3 cycles of targeted chemo was given to reduce the size of the tumour. The surgery lasted for 12-14 hours with 3 teams operating at the same time i.e. thoracic, plastic and neurosurgery. The whole tumor was taken out with RO resection. Then the patient was sent to the ICU for 48 hours. After that rehabilitation therapy was given at the ward. The patient was made to exercise. Because of this approach and the presence of all the super specialities in Medanta, the Medicity the surgery could have been successful.
