Subscribe and turn on notifications 🔔 so you don't miss any videos: 🤍 When Russia first invaded Ukraine in 2014, the US was hesitant to send more than supplies to the Ukrainian army. But when Russia launched a full-scale invasion in 2022, the US changed its tune. President Joe Biden quickly began approving huge packages of weapons to help Ukraine stymie the Russian attack. And for the first couple of weeks, it worked. The Ukrainian army used weapons from the US and its Western allies to stop Russia from capturing Kiev. As the war progressed, so did US help. It sent heavy artillery in the spring, and then agreed to eventually send tanks in winter 2023. But each time, it deliberated over whether Ukraine can effectively use the weapons, and whether they'll provoke Russia to escalate the conflict. So far, that hasn’t happened, and the US and its allies are now considering sending Ukraine very advanced long-range missiles and F-16 fighter jets. Both would be game-changers for Ukraine. Residents on Mariupol in eastern Ukraine on Wednesday told The Associated Press that they have armed themselves in case of possible Russian aggression. Russian President Vladimir Putin has raised the stakes in the Ukraine standoff by recognizing the independence of rebel regions in the country's east, but a key question now is whether he will stop at the states of Luhansk and Donetsk or try to move deeper into Ukraine. In a potential precursor of more land claims, Putin emphasized that Russia has recognized the rebel regions in the borders that existed when they proclaimed their independence in 2014. Ukraine has retained control of about two thirds of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, including the major port of Mariupol on the Azov Sea following the eight-year separatist conflict that has killed over 14,000. A Mariupol resident Katerina Yerska had bought a gun five years ago and since then kept up her skills at a firing range. "We have a war in our country, and we need to be ready for everything," she said adding that she won't hesitate to use the weapon if she needs to protect herself and her family. The owner of one of the gun shops in Mariupol said the demand for ammunition had increased over the past weeks. He said people has been buying ammunition. Amid rising tensions on the line of contact, the Ukrainian parliament has said it is currently considering legislation that will relax legislation on gun ownership. Russian authorities in Crimea published footage on March 15 showing young children getting military training in a school. The footage was published to VK by Vladimir Konstantinov, the head of the Kremlin-controlled administration in Crimea, and shows children assembling rifles and doing martial arts drills. “Children show great interest in the activities,” said Konstantinov, adding that more than 60 students were involved in the training, including kindergarten-aged children. Today it’s still considered a rare find popping up in strange places every so often even in the trucks of Ukranian’s cars. I like it , that’s casual. The AN94 was originally meant to be the primary weapon for the Soviet Union which would have required a major change in infantry doctrine but there are a number of reasons why it failed. The Rifles development story leads us to answers about the pro’s and cons of how the Russian military industrial complex works. In this episode we’re going to cover the AN-94 rifle that is used by both Russian Spetsnaz Operators and Ukrainian troops to this day. Let’s analyze how it operates, the right and wrong ways to deploy with it in combat and whether or not its unique fighting doctrine makes any sense. The fact that he was born in 1950 in the city of Izhevsk makes it seem like he was destined to work in the defense industry because Izhevsk is known as a major hub for Russia’s defense industry, engineering and metallurgy. The city has the title of the armory capital of Russia. Nikonov’s father and mother both worked at Izhmashh, the massive soviet arms factory there talk about being born into something. The city’s armory itself is legendary. It was first established on June 10th 1807 by Emperor of all Russia Alexander the Ist in response to Napoleon's invasion of Russia. The placement of this small arms plant at Izhevsk was by no means random. Alexander the 1st strategically planned its location at the bank of the Izh River due to its close proximity to the iron works which would solve all of their raw material supply issues. One of the most iconic machine guns ever built is the Soviet-made DShK .50 calibre heavy machine gun, better known as the 'Dushka' which means 'Dear' in Russian. It has been used in wars from Vietnam to Syria and an adapted version is being used by the Ukrainian military. The Dushka was originally developed in the 1930s as an anti-aircraft gun and can fire 600 rounds a minute at a range of 1.5 miles.
